Turks Head Trail

OVERVIEW

The goal of our project is to create an accessible trail for commuting, exercise and recreation. The trail is named "The Turks Head Trail" in honor of the historic name for West Chester. The trail will be 9.29 miles long and will connect downtown West Chester to the Wawa Rail Station on Rte. 1 in Middletown. It will also connect a total of 7 municipalities total: 4 in Chester County (West Chester Borough, West Goshen, Westtown, Thornbury) and 3 in Delaware County (Thornbury, Middletown, Chester Heights). This multipurpose trail will be perfect for people of all ages who want to walk, jog, or bike. Dog walking under leash will be permitted.

​Rails with Trails

This is a Rails WITH Trails project. The trail will be built alongside and at a safe distance from the existing railroad tracks on which the West Chester Historic Train operates today. The land (which is owned by SEPTA) is wide enough to safely accommodate both a rail line and a trail.
